Workplaces all over the UK will be buzzing with the sounds of wagging tails, slobbery chops and lots of laughter on Friday the 24th June for Bring Your Dog to Work Day!
The event which exists to raise money for rescue charity, All Dogs Matter, also promotes the benefits of having pets in the workplace. Higher team morale, less absenteeism and increased job satisfaction are just some of the things you can tell your (reluctant) boss about, but let’s be honest – it’s all about the cuddles!
To celebrate, we are taking a peak inside some of the coolest pet friendly workspaces, where you will find four legged employees toiling (snoozing) alongside their human counterparts. First up, we visit the London offices of BorrowMyDoggy – the online community that matches pooches with local dog carers.
Location: Borough, London
What do you do?
BorrowMyDoggy is an online community that connects dog owners with local, verified and insured dog-lovers who are happy to help take care of a pooch for walks, sitting and holiday care.
We operate across the UK and Ireland with hundreds of new members joining every week. When an owner lends their doggy to a local borrower, it’s a win-win (or woof-woof) situation for everyone involved: Doggies enjoy extra exercise, love and affection; owners have peace of mind that their dog is well taken care of by a verified, insured and local borrower; and borrowers get to enjoy happy doggy time.
Our aim is to leave ‘Pawprints of Happiness’ on the lives of dogs and people by building local communities where dog-lovers give a helping hand taking care of local pooches, simply because they love dogs.
Introduce us to your resident pets:
We have two full time office dogs and a variety of borrowed dogs who regularly stop by, too. Here are the four most regular wagtastic pooch staff members:
Lady, 9, Cavalier Kings Charles Spaniel x Cocker Spaniel – obsessed with tennis balls
Charlie, 5, Cavapoo – has an extensive trick repertoire
Whisky, 2, Border Terrier – small dog with a big personality
Cherry, 11, Labrador – who says you can’t teach old dogs new tricks!?
Why did you decide to become a pet friendly workplace?
Dogs are the core of our business and everyone who works at BorrowMyDoggy is a massive dog lover, so a pet friendly workplace was a no-brainer. In addition to this, there are so many studies that show the benefits of having dogs in the workplace and we have definitely experienced those benefits first hand… or should I say, first paw?
What does the team love most about having pets in the office?
The happiness that they bring is pawsome. They make us laugh, they make us smile and their contribution to the overall atmosphere in the office is wonderful.
Where do your pets spend most of their time in the office?
It depends which dog as they all have their favourite spaces. Lady and Charlie like to be up on chairs as they’re highly engaged in the day to day work. Cherry likes a lazy day so she’s usually in bed, whereas Whisky is more often than not found with her head in the toy box.
What’s the funniest thing your pets have done at work?
Almost too many to mention! Whisky has a bit of a thieving streak so we encourage handbags to be kept out of paws reach – otherwise don’t expect your lunch to be in tact come the afternoon. In fact, lunch is probably the most amusing time in the office – even Cherry wakes up and takes notice.
Can you recommend any great dog-friendly places nearby?
Would you encourage other companies to introduce a pet friendly policy?
I would absolutely encourage other companies to introduce a pet friendly policy. It’s fantastic for company morale and it will bring so much happiness into everyone’s day to day life.
