Doggy Adventures at Columbia Road Flower Market

It’s shameful that I live 10 minutes from the glorious Columbia Road Flower Market in East London and I have NEVER been. Anyone would think that I hate flowers, which would be quite weird and possibly a good reason for people to not want to be my friend. I mean, who hates flowers? WHO!? Ok maybe people with major pollen allergies or people who are dead inside, but I am neither of those.

So, with an unusually sunny Sunday at my disposal last week, I thought enough is enough! I got my bike, my camera and an inappropriate pair of shoes for cycling headed down to Columbia Road for a nosey about.

SPOTTED: Cone of shame

This little stretch of road is transformed into an urban oasis of foliage where traders come with their best bouquets and tout for your business (with some rather interesting sales patter I must say). Not only was it packed to the rafters with people and of course beautiful flowers, but I was squealing with excitement to find the place buzzing with cool canines too. Every man and woman and dog, quite literally, was down there soaking up the atmosphere.

Despite being slightly hectic, there’s plenty of dog-friendly places to perch for a coffee and a natter. When I got tired of chasing dogs around and sniffing flowers (do I sound like a lunatic?), I took a break to scoff down a cake from the Lily Vanilli Bakery  and have a snoop through the cute little shops dotted along the market.

I’m no expert on dog body language (or canine music tastes) but I think think the ears say it all.

I love this dog!!

Columbia Road Flower Market is open Sundays from 8am – 3pm. For the best flowers get there early but there are definitely some bargains to be had nearer the end of the day.

I love flowers (and dogs)
